AHMEDABAD: Department of Science and Technology Gujarat government has demanded substantial Rs 40,783 crore grants from the government of India (GOI) for the development of semiconductor industry in Dholera SIR region and Sanand near Ahmedabad in next six years. Mona Khandhar, principal secretary, science & technology department informed that, "the objectives of the state government is of robust and sustainable semiconductor and electronics ecosystem in Sanand and Dholera SIR region in next six years."

New Delhi: Tata Electronics on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with California-headquartered semiconductor design and engineering firm Synopsys, to collaborate on various technological verticals. The partnership will see Synopsys’ offerings being used in Tata Electronics’ upcoming $10.9-billion semiconductor fabrication plant, or fab, in Dholera, Gujarat, which was announced on 29 February.

In a historic moment for India, Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) has carried out the groundbreaking of its Rs 91,000 crore semiconductor fabrication facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). The first set of semiconductors will start rolling out from Tata Electronics' plant here in December 2026, union minister for communications and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday. Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of Tata Group and CG Power chip plants, Vaishnaw said India will be among the top five chip ecosystems in the world by 2029.
